Advisories Law Society of Alberta Launches Equity and Diversity Initiative: “My Experience”
On September 30, 2020, the Law Society of Alberta launched a project called “My Experience“. The initiative was launched as part of ongoing efforts to increase diversity and counter discrimination and racism within the legal profession in the province. “My Experience” invites Black Canadians, Indigenous Peoples and People of Colour (BIPOC), whether law or articling students or lawyers, trained in the province or internationally, to share their experiences in the legal profession. To do so, submit an audio or visual clip, no more than 2 minutes long, or a letter of 750 words or less through the project’s website by October 30, 2020. The resulting stories from the project will inform the work of the Law Society’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee and the Indigenous Advisory Committee. The Law Society seeks to learn from these stories and identify how they can change the way they regulate to better address the needs of these communities and foster diversity within the profession.
