Advisories NCA 2022 Assessment and Appeal Policy Updates

Amended NCA Assessment and Appeal Policies came into effect on July 1, 2022. The new policies will be applied to files that were ready to be assessed on or after July 1, 2022.

The changes to the Assessment Policy were approved following a comprehensive review by the NCA. They clarify some sections of the policy after a year of working with the major changes introduced in 2021. The new policies clarify the requirements for applicants who have completed a program consisting of two (2) years of interactive online instruction, and for applicants who have not completed three years of a Qualifying Law Degree Program, additional legal studies or had significant experience within the last five years. These policy updates also provide broader options for language testing and expand the definition of a “Refugee Applicant ”.

NCA policies are based on, and comply with, the National Requirement, the Federation standard that everyone must meet to qualify for bar admissions in Canada.
